The Web Speech API, supported by The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), is a browser-based JavaScript API that enables developers to incorporate speech recognition and synthesis into websites and applications. The API offers text-to-speech as an output as well as speech recognition as input. Use case scenarios include using voice to perform a web search, creating a speech-driven command interface, recognizing and transcribing dialogues, and more. The API is maintained under the W3C Community Contributor License Agreement (CLA).
